Urine casts are cylindrical structures formed in the kidney tubules. They are examined under a microscope and their type can help diagnose various kidney conditions.

High values may indicate

High numbers of casts in urine may indicate kidney disease, such as acute tubular necrosis, glomerulonephritis, or pyelonephritis, depending on the type of cast.

Low values may indicate

Low or absent urine casts is normal. Small numbers of hyaline casts can be found in healthy individuals after exercise.
