Indirect (unconjugated) bilirubin measures the portion of bilirubin that has not yet been processed by the liver. It is calculated as total bilirubin minus direct bilirubin.

High values may indicate
High indirect bilirubin may indicate hemolytic anemia, ineffective erythropoiesis, Gilbert's syndrome, or conditions causing increased red blood cell breakdown.
Low values may indicate
Low indirect bilirubin is generally not a clinical concern and is usually considered normal.
